Love to love... Winter denim
How to wear it.
It’s our go-to, our must-have, our can’t-go-without.
When in doubt, wear denim. Too much denim? There’s no such thing. Whether you’re a jeans and T-shirt girl or not, we share how to get winter denim right - and not just blue jeans (baby), but denim jackets, shirts and skirts and so on. Here's our essential denim buys:
So, what are the tricks to get this trend right?
Mix the shades and the weight of your denim to get this spot-on. Go for a lighter shirt with dark jeans. Mix blacks with greys, whites with blues. Or, if you want to colour block, go for a darker wash. We always love something a little more distressed.
LAYER, LAYER AND THEN LAYER SOME MORE.
If double denim isn’t your thing, break up the layers. Think a grey sweatshirt, a heavy knit tied around your waist, a printed shirt, a trench coat worn over the top. You get the picture.
BORROW (READ: STEAL) FROM HIM.
Steal his button-down shirt. The bigger, the better. Opt for a heavier cotton drill to keep you warm. This look adds a little more structure to skinny jeans and is perfect under a trench or a heavy knit.
… And his T-shirt(s). Guys’ Ts are so perfect for winter. Roll the sleeves and tuck them in. Layer these - the more, the better. We love to layer one on top of the other - the trick to get this right is to be sure they have the same neckline and are least one size up from what you’d normally take so you get that loose, just-left-his-house look.
So, what are the must-haves for winter layering?
Sweats. And lots of them. They’re so-much-yes, super lightweight and easy to layer.
Knits. Wear them over a tee, under a denim jacket.
Camis. This, above all else, is a must-have. Or, if you’re playing the Tinder game, a lust-have. It brings that feminine edge to a cool weather ensemble. Just be sure it’s layered. This isn’t a standalone piece in the cooler months.
Feminine blouses. Go for a soft cut in a retro prints - sure to lift any outfit.
Anything white. Knits, t-shirts, shirts, etc. White makes everything feel fresher. Move over Luke Perry, we’re on the block now.
Shoes. They really bring it all together. We love simple black heels or, for daytime and fast escapes, white kicks or flat boots.
