How to… rock a blazer
5 ways to wear a blazer.
Suiting made super simple.
Blazers are the best. There’s just no doubt about it. A well-cut blazer adds instant polish to your look; it says, very calmly and directly in an indoor voice, “I got this”. So: get it.
Whether you’re a die-hard blazer wearer, or you’re new to the game, we’ve got the need-to-knows right here.
For the cooler months, opt for a heavy-weight option. You can find some great military style ones here too. Our tip is to look for length and weight. A long-line lightweight number will see you through the warmer days.
ONE: Steal HIS blazer.
Because what’s his is yours, right? We’d say he won’t notice but the truth is, he’s sure to. Boyfriend blazers, they’re the corporate sister of boyfriend jeans. Team the two together - it’s the perfect weekend go-to. When it comes to getting the boyfriend blazer just right, the bigger the better.
Our tip… Be sure to push up the sleeves.
Wear this with… A simple slip dress.
TWO: … Or your mum’s.
Mum blazers – just like Mum Jeans – are a thing. For real. These are ‘just’ blazers – they’re not part of a suit, and their best teamed with light-wash jeans and loafers. Think something that’s quite structured, a little boxy.
As seen on… Bella Hadid, Rihanna and your mum.
Wear this with… A simple T-shirt.
THREE: Wear it (and little else)
Yep, you read that right. This is a great eveningwear option. Opt for a long line blazer that’s mid- to lightweight. What more could you want? It’s low-cut (tick), with high, high split. This is a good time for all involved. Possibly, though, NSFW.
As seen on… Kendall Jenner.
Wear this with… White kicks and a high pony on the weekends, and for after dark – a pair of block heels.
FOUR: Belt your blazer
Hel-lo there waist. This is a great option for those who are not a fan of the oversized look. Simply cinch your blazer in at the waist with a simple belt or tie. This gives you the shape you’re after and adds an extra layer to your ensemble.
Wear this with… wide-leg pants or skinny high-waisted jeans for a more slimline look.
FIVE: Free the arms
Also known as ‘fashion blazer’, this is where you drape it over your shoulders and leave the arms hanging loose. Kind of like a cape. Think of it as a blazer without the commitment. (Writer’s note: This is our Editor’s favourite. She tells us it’s because it leaves her free to type unhindered but … we saw her on Facebook.)
Wear this with… just about anything. We love a jeans and T-shirt combo, but it's also perfect over structured dresses.
