Then and Now
Dolly Magazine Cover Girls.
Miranda, Jess, Kate and more.
It’s been six months since we bid farewell to the iconic Dolly mag #RIPDolly. But in 46 years, there was so much to love. Lip Smackers, Ashanti and your low-rider jeans held up by skater belts.
Even better were our style crushes on the Dolly Magazine cover girls. Yes, we loved them more than the sealed-section - it’s true. So where did all our homegrown sweethearts go? We don’t have to look much further than the Victoria’s Secret runway to spot a familiar supermodel (hint: Miranda Kerr) but here’s a few that might give you a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It’s #TB time.
A classic story of the country girl goes mega. We hearted her then, the whole world hearts her now. She was the epitome of 1990’s fashion with her dead straight centre part and blonde streaks.
Ms Kerr is a baby mama, organic entrepreneur with a grown-up bob and ranch in Malibu - did we mention engaged to SnapChat’s CEO Evan Spiegel? Enough said. How far she’s come...
After her aunt pestered the self-confessed “tomboy little rebel shithead” to enter the Dolly model comp in 2000, she rose to fame with her signature gap-tooth smile. Her face has been splashed across glossies like Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle and Dolly’s big sister mag, Cleo.
Jess has since made herself at home in NY where she’s almost always papped in converse and jeans but that never stops her fronting brands like Seafolly and Guess. She’s also founded a label Neon Hart with General Pants Co. and a beauty line called Luma. Busy girl!
She was the blue-eyed babe from WA we all wanted to be in the new millennium. And nothing has changed. After her Dolly win she became the top finalist in the TV show Search For a Supermodel and then went on to travel the world strutting her stuff. New York - yep. Paris - yep. Milan - yeah, she did that too. Oh and London.
Big deal labels like Levi’s, L’Oreal, Sony and Peter Alexander all had to have her for their campaigns. But she seems to keep a low profile these days with no instagram account. Shock horror.
Becoming a cover girl at 16, this dark beauty was pinned the next Megan Gale with her exotic mix of Spanish-Mexican and Dutch-Maori features. Back then she was eager to get into oncology. Now all grown up she is still working it in front of the lens for Chadwicks with a Kayser campaign under her belt. Other than that she keeps a relatively low profile.
She went from Dolly to Vogue to homeless shelter. The former model (once engaged to billionaire James Packer) had been out of the spotlight for years living by her new name Tziporah Malkah until recently re-emerging on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Almost unrecognisable from her modelling days, she now pays the bills as an aged-care worker in Melbourne and speaks openly about her struggle with obesity.
