Shoot for the moon and you’ll land among the stars

He may have been to the moon and back but veteran astronaut and the man whose name we all learnt in primary school has now graced New York Men’s Fashion Week with his presence.

Buzz Aldrin, a one-time employee of NASA and the second ever man to walk on the moon (first was Neil Armstrong FYR), walked alongside TV Scientist Bill NYE for Nick Graham’s Fall show. Wearing a lot of silver (of course) emblazoned with the slogan, “Get your a*se to Mars” he owned the catwalk like a pro. Move over Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner.

“I’ve walked on the Moon, so how hard can it be to walk in a fashion show?” Buzz asked fashion masthead WWD weeks out from the show.

As for Aldrin, what’s next? He wants a chat with the new President elect – and not to swap style tips or chat about Trump’s perennial red tie, but about committing more spend to space travel.

“I have to tell the president that exploration inspires more than fixing potholes,” he told the crowd at the show.

Talk about a moon walk.

And since it’s #ThrowbackThursday, we look back on the top 5 celebrity cameos on the catwalk.

Blue Steel: Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson at Valentino, Spring/Summer 2015

It was what they call a “fashion moment”.

Man oh man: Naomi Campbell at Givenchy Menswear, Spring/Summer 2016

Anything men can do, she can do better: remember that time the original super, Naomi Campbell, walked for Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy … MENSWEAR. Talk about swagger.

Like a virgin (not really): Madonna for Jean Paul Gaultier, Pret a Porter 1992

Unsurprisingly, this cameo is still NSFW to this day. Go Mads.

Thug life: Tupac Shakur, Versace men's 1996

Fashion legend Gianni Versace called Tupac "the most beautiful man in the world" and dressed him in the silk shirts that are now essentials in any self-respecting 90s rapper starter pack. Any wonder then, that he made fashion history when he walked – with his bodyguards and his fiancé Kidada Jones – in 1996.

The Ellen show: Ellen Degeneres, Richie Rich Spring 2011.

Everybody’s favourite ladies’ lady Ellen Degeneres closed the Richie Rich show in the Big Apple. All she’s missing is her mic.
