Flashback to the 90s! The style remix you need now

Old school meets new school.

Turning back the clock to fashion’s favourite era.

Source: Pinterest

Finally - it’s time to praise the 90s like we should, Fatboy Slim style. We’re talking double denim, the high pony and a crop-top comeback. You don’t have to have been a 90s baby to appreciate good style, so we’ve stalked out five fash crushes who know how to throwback to when Brittney Spears did it again, Pulp Fiction was cult and the Clueless girls knew more about shopping than. Any. One.

Time to unpack all those mixed tapes and whip out the blue mascara. Here's how to do the ultimate noughties wardrobe...

Denim heaven: Zanita Whittington

Britney and Justin always get a mention for making denim-on-denim the ultimate 90s look, but for a more modern twist we’re watching how photographer Zanita Whittington wears hers. Embroidered just like they did in Beverly Hills 90210 (we're talking original). Whether you choose floral, beads or exotic trims the trick is make it fancy AF.

High-top pony: Bella Hadid

Our forever girl crush, Bella Hadid has had a lot of high-points in her career but our favourite has to be the sci-fi slick of the beloved 90s. Go retro and do it hanging off the bed to get it right on top. For extra pop, hair accessories from Therapy Rural make it look supermodel fresh even off the runway. Hint: keep your jacket collar high for added effect!

Crop-tops: Beyonce

For a golden moment the midriff was everything and then it faded into the more scandalous skin category, not for public viewing. But it’s back with a vengeance, crop-tops are the top hit from Gigi Hadid to Taylor Swift. But who wore it better? Queen Bey is our insta-inspo repping the itty-bitty in all the right places (pre-baby bump of course). Go mod like Beyonce or pair it with a sports luxe combo for a flashback to when Biggie was number 1 in the charts.

Knee-high boots: Rhianna

Beyond Spice Girls nostalgia, it was Cher from Clueless days who had us falling for this look. Now, bad gal RiRi shows how to nought-ify all our thigh-high outfits in the new age. All our old obsessions: the highest of high leather boots, bling hoops, short shorts and those iconic white frames just like Kurt Cobain.

Black Belts: Kendell Jenner

A total Mum wardrobe raid. And goes perfect with her high-waisted mum jeans, (so grab a pair of those while you’re in there!). This was Winona Rider’s thing when she and Johnny Depp were Hollywood’s ‘it’ couple. Shiny buckles to glitz up the grunge. Kendall updates this old-school look with a cherry bright graphic tee.
