We’ve mastered superfoods

But you won’t have heard of
these weird uses.

When you’ve run out of your favourite cleaning product or there’s just not enough face mask left in the tube, don’t fret! The superfoods are coming to the rescue.

Coco-loco, baby

Coconut oil is great for cooking and tanning. But, celebrities like Miranda Kerr are using it for beauty. Did you know coconut oil can be used to improve acne-prone skin? And lovers, if you’re looking for a last-minute massage oil (if you know what we mean); coconut oil is your two in one.

Yoghurt is delicious and is a good way to get healthy bacteria in your stomach. But, this deliciously tasting summer treat also has healing powers for sunburn! Lather it on your skin and in 10 minutes it will cool your hot spots.

“It’s not acai, it’s ah-sah-hee” *rolls eyes like Hermione*. This rainforest loving berry has become one of the most popular healthy foods. The acai berry is known for its antioxidant enriched health benefits and when in tablet form, it helps with hair, skin and overall immunity. If you’re loving the acai berry, remember it’s also going to assist in weight loss *stocks up on acai*.

When life gives you lemons

When life gives Beyonce lemons, she makes twins. But us? We’re making lemon water. If you’ve ever woken up in the morning and it on an empty stomach, you’ll know what we’re on about. And so does Gwyneth Paltrow; She swears by it’s magical benefits. Hello weight loss and detoxing. It also makes for an organic multi-purpose household cleaner. You can either rub it on the surface and scrub it off, or mix it in with your baking soda and vinegar – the more lemon the better. Ah, zesty goodness.

Aloe there!

It’s not often you find an aloe vera plant in your backyard, but if you happen to come across one, crack open the succulent and eat it. The ‘meat’ is found in the leaves and is a gel like substance. It’s a fantastic superfood, and if your palate is daring enough you can juice it or make a salad dressing (but the taste isn’t for everyone). Even more, it’s a nourishing moisturizer – rub it onto your skin and wait until it dries (usually 20 minutes), then rinse off. Hello, glowing skin.

Charcoal (not just for naughty kids)

If you haven’t seen the activated charcoal craze and chimney-sweeper teeth on the Internet, you’ve been living under a Facebook-free rock. It’s a natural body detox method and if you’re brave enough you can even use it to brush your pearly whites.

Lime your way to perfection

Limes are the ultimate ingredient to make a vodka soda bearable, however, Farah Dhubkai the DIY Instagram star uses her limes for another reason - deodorant. Sounds weird, but we are keen to try it.

Honey, honey - how he thrills me!

Honey is a natural sweetener and can be used on anything … or you could just eat it straight out of the jar. That works too. But, it also has body benefits, like hydrating dry skin. Scarlett Johannsson is said to be a big fan.

Oat ya later!

You either love it or hate it. However, what if we told you that oats have a super power? It controls acne and leaves you with bright, smooth skin. You can also put it in the fridge to kill leftover odours. Because who has time to clean out the fridge (not us).

Ginger, and not in the Spice-Girl way

This hair loving root-vegetable will keep your luscious locks healthy and long. Grab some coconut oil and ginger, and massage throughout. Make sure you leave it in for an hour to reap the best results. And if you feel a warming sensation, don’t fret.  It’s completely normal. It’s also your go-to DIY remedy for nausea and colds. Add some ginger, lemon and honey to hot water, and voila!

Let’s avocuddle

Oh, an avocado. Thaaaanks. It not only tastes great and we’d like to eat it all day, every day. But this superfood also makes for the perfect face mask. Andreia Brazier shows us her avocado beauty secret.
