If you follow a beauty Pinterest board you know glitter is a HUGE ATM - not only online but all over festivals like Coachella and Splendour in the Grass - and we are totally in for this trend. From lips to eyes to even some more risque body parts, we’re here to tell you how to rock glitter this season!
Glitter lips are everywhere and for good reason! This look is an ultra-glam update to the more traditional bold lip, the perfect addition to any event you have from Christmas to Coachella. To rock a more traditional glitter lip, and make it last, pick a glitter glue you trust along with a finely milled glitter that is safe for the mouth area. Using a lip brush, swipe on the glue making sure to stay within the lines of your lips (a Kylie overline here will look like you’ve decided to draw across your face) and then dab on the glitter with your fingers.
The fab thing about glitter is that it comes in every colour you can possibly think of, and because of the translucency of the glamorous shards of plastic, it lets your base colour shine through! There are literally a billion possibilities when it comes to choosing your perfect colour, so mix and match and see where your imagination takes you! Our faves are a good gold on nude, teal on black, or a subtle ombre.
The ‘it’ girls of editorial make-up are all over this trend, so finding some inspo is super simple. Get on the gram and have a stalk of Pat McGrath, Dominique, and Linda Hallberg who are all slaying the glitter game!
If glitter lips isn’t enough for all you glitter addicts, we’re happy to let you know that there are other places to put that shimmery goodness! The most recent trend is the glitter highlight, a major upgrade from your traditional shine. Rather than patting the glitter across your lips, dab some glitter glue on a make-up sponge and sparsely run it across your cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow, and brow bone. Next, pick up a champagne gold (or other) glitter on the same sponge and pat over the same areas you placed the glue. BAM. Now you’re a glittering highlighted goddess.
When it comes to getting your hands on the goods, glitter is much easier to find than you might expect, just make sure it’s make-up grade glitter so you don’t mess with the thin layers of skin on your pretty lil face! NYX produces some fire glitter and pigments to have you shining like a disco ball without breaking the bank, but if you’re looking to splurge some more, Inglot’s body sparkles are AMAZING. As always there are some great indie brands too, so get out there and get your glitter on!
