The lady is a star
Yo DJ play our song.
How a music muse inspired a fashion boutique.
Be a rock star one day, and a mermaid the next. For your inner flower child, 70s skater chick, seapunk, or 90s indie kid, Eclectic Ladyland has it all...
Located on Oz’s West Coast in the oceanside town of Albany, stepping into this boutique from your coastal road trip will transport you straight to the vintage desert diner vibes of 60s and 70s USA. Think Route 66, coast cruising in turquoise convertibles, dusty desert sunsets, and cacti for days. Soundtrack: Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland, of course.
Diner jukebox? The girls at Eclectic Ladyland do one-better. Not only do they offer flamboyant fashion pieces, there’s records too. “We get all sorts of people popping in to pick up some vinyl,” says owner, Shannon. “The men who walk into our pink, glittery space full of sparkly dresses, usually find some wax... but never want to hang out here for long!”
Opened on a whim in 2013, Shannon Fox turned a lifetime in music (read: radio presenter, DJ, music writer… ) into a festival for the fashion pack, “I wanted to create a store that I would want to shop at, and cut the five-hour trek to Perth.” Not just a stopover for those long Summer drives, Eclectic Ladyland is the dream destination for fashion lovers and music fanatics, groovers, dags, and soul shakers alike. Something for everyone - even especially if you’ve brought your Granny for the drive.
Get to know these psychedelic Ladylanders…
Eclectic Ladyland is all about... Our name is a play on the Jimi Hendrix album 'Electric Ladyland'. I think it says a lot about us - we are eclectic, flamboyant, and love things that are one of a kind. We like to support smaller designers, invest in quality, and be bold (even it means a few sideways glances in our conservative little town!).
The Eclectic Ladyland girl is... A little bit eccentric with her style. Has multiple fashion personalities! And is a bit of a magpie when it comes to sparkly things.
The looks Eclectic Ladyland nails… 60s looks straight out of Woodstock, 70s skater girls, and super kitschy glam.
Music on high rotation… We recently dressed the ladies from All Our Exes Live In Texas, so them for sure. Early 2000s Justin Timberlake! And psychedelic era Beatles.
Labels we love... There are so many! Romance Was Born - their clothes are wearable art! The beading on some of the pieces is out of this world. Sretsis - every single piece is so ethereal, I want to live in them. twenty-seven names, from NZ, make impeccable garments that are a little bit whimsical and never date. Also some bigger ones I covet would be Valentino, Erdem, Ashish, Vivetta, to name a few *sigh*
Our inspo... Pamela Des Barres, Isabella Blow, Iris Apfel, Jenny Kee, Kim Gordon (read her book if you haven't), Carrie Brownstein - there are so many! They have outrageous style and insane talent.
This season, we’re lovin’… Embellished everything! Lots of embroidery, daytime sequins, velvet etc. A bit of theatre.
Our style is... Totally dependent on my mood. If I'm in jeans and a tee, chances are I'm tired or grumpy. If I'm wearing something sparkly or frilly, I'm probably pretty cheery.
Our secret to success… Stay true to your vision, and always give the customer the best experience possible. Otherwise… just fake it til you make it!
