There’s so much going on in fashion right now. I think the eccentric front cover portrays that rather well: a mix up of turquoise and pink with a splash of yellow and ruffles delight. May Vogue has made a plethora of choices in colour and texture into a somewhat comprehensive dialogue. The end result? ...a beautiful chaos.

There’s no denying that Vogue delves into the aesthetically appealing like no other. Team this ethos with a collection of crafty Australian designers handing out their fashion best. Vogue view ‘Shop Australia’ (p.57) highlights bold colour with a hint of old school romance in the form of woollen sweaters and basket weave shoes. There’s something unique and exciting about handmade, and Vogue is all over it.

What’s on trend? According to Vogue, contrast is key. Shirting made delicate and feminine, sheer fabrics made tough and edgy, trousers in all shades of bold and prints, prints, prints: stone wash, leopard, geometric. It all works.

For something inspirational you must read Genevra Leek’s article ‘Quiet Achievers’ (p. 72-73) on the designers of Songs for the Mute. Read about how far they have come in the demanding fashion industry at such a very young age. Their successes and the way they stay true to themselves as designers is critical reading.

We all know ‘chic’ loves Paris. Become culturally transformed by an homage to living the life of a Parisienne (p.134) with the look and the attitude to match. The alluring life of a Franco file is hard to go by. Some helpful suggestions make for an interesting lifestyle project.

To conclude, enjoy and marvel at the interesting collaboration of colour that is the May edition of Vogue.
