For Fall Winter 2011, Frida Giannini draws upon Gucci’s golden eras of the 70s and 90s to propose a new sense of sleek glamour. In this new aesthetic discourse, contemporary minimalism and extreme luxury intersect to create a powerful statement that is at once rich and refined. Exploring her own vocabulary, Giannini offers an evolution of her signatures and a new take on timeless symbols of chic. Each piece has a sartorial quality, and a one of a kind distinction, underscored by the impeccable craftsmanship and traditions for which the House is known.

Silhouette
Tailoring borrowed from the boyfriend’s closet offers a powerful counterpoint to a resolutely feminine look. Oversized deconstructed cashmere coats and cropped collarless jackets are paired with soft, printed silk tops and skinny straight pants with folded waists and metal plate belts. Trench coat constructions appear on dresses and coats. A continued exploration of the body conscious dress yields new results with anatomical razor cuts that expose sexy slashes of skin. Asymmetrical skirts and wrap silk dresses reveal a complex construction in their architectural folds. The elongated shape is emphasized by over the knee suede platform boots.

Pattern is created organically, with abstract, painterly prints that fuse seamlessly into the tone on tone color palette. Subtle nuances on House colors like camel, ice grey, brick, and tobacco offer a sophisticated backdrop to singular details, including suede and leather trims, built-in hard metal collars and cuffs, and bronze metal leather inserts.

Materials
Gucci’s unparalleled tradition in luxury materials allows for exceptional results with fur and precious skins. Mix-tint fox jackets, with elaborate hand-knitted internal constructions, are light as air. One camel hair coat features a removable knitted mink lining, another a neoprene construction, while a sable jacket is interwoven with suede. Patchworks of luxurious skins include an ostrich skin, suede and nappa leather blocked coat, or a blond beaver jacket with suede inserts. Suede is liberally used on trenches, fox trimmed coats or on the fronts of cardigans, while nappa leather is used on coats and paired with beaver on a shift dress. An ocelot print coat offers another key innovation.

Evening
A controlled opulence is created for evening. Python pattern chantilly lace serves as a fetishistic and transparent tulle upon which dresses are artfully constructed. Hand-cut vinyl sequins with ombre shading create innovative 3-D patterns and are embroidered with ostrich feathers. Shrugs of pailettes or feathers, lace stockings and T-strap crocodile sandals complete the look. The new tuxedo pant is paired with a mink tanktop with long feathers, and metal harness, or with a degrade ostrich feather jacket with embroidered base. Also noteworthy: the liquid oil effect on a silk nylon jacquard caban and matching pant.

Accessories
An iconic Gucci design from 1973 serves as the metal hardware motif on a new collection of handbags that includes new miniaturized bags with a long gold chain, loosely-structured ostrich handbags, and flat clutches. Gucci’s original diamante pattern appears on travel-inspired bags with crocodile trim, while suede envelope clutches feature metal detail. Footwear includes crocodile platform booties, suede booties with crocodile or patent backs, or Tstrap sandals with metal inserts. Gold and leather cuffs, gold and leather chokers, a new micro skinny watch, and transparent metal trimmed sunglasses complete the offering.
